Business, society and policy Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Business, society and policy - Case Study Example This report is concerning the business perspective of Panther Sports, who have outsourced the soccer balls manufacturing in Pakistan, and are now faced with an ethical problem that is putting their sales, credibility and stronghold in the Asian sports market at jeopardy.Panther Sports, after a decline in its sales due to increasing economic pressure and limited manufacturing schemes, decided to follow the example of other companies in outsourcing the manufacturing market in the developing countries where labor intensive jobs are cheaply done. This would ensure that the product is made on the same quality and standards as those made through domestic manufacturing, but the cost of production would be considerably cut. Outsourcing in the Asian countries would also open the doors to Asian market to them where they had a good chance of developing their stronghold. Hence, they developed their soccer manufacturing market in Pakistan, and contracted with Faisal Sports in Sialkot. However, in this region, that is India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, there have been extensive cases of child labor. Faisal Sports was discovered to be involved in this act, and so Panther Sports terminated its contract with this contractor. Given the nature and gravity of this illegal act, Panther Sports is at risk of losing its future consumers, and its hold in the Asian Market.... of Panther sports in this conflict, and recommendations can be given to solve this problem, the business perspective has to studied. This involves discussing the structure and infrastructure of multinational companies, their responsibilities and duties as set by many codes and instructions by authorities, the methods of their operations concerning outsourcing in other countries, a look at the stakeholders theory and the risks that Panther Sports runs. Business organizations and companies are viewed as independent entities and virtual citizens of a state. These organizations are held independent of their staff, and hence, the staff, on any level, will not be charged of any crime if the organization fails to fulfill its duties or violates any code of conduct. The organization itself will face the consequences, and the owners themselves will not be held responsible. Whereas the companies are not entitled to solve every problem faced by the communities in which they have their plants, they are demanded to make sure that any issues created as a direct or indirect influence of the company, whether primary or secondary, be solved by that company, and that their business procedures do not violate the norms of business ethics and the standard set regulations (Freeman 2002). When companies outsource their manufacturing business in other countries, they, though still holding the right to the name and label of the company, do not own the factories and industries locally set

Accounting Information Systems and Control Issues Essay

Accounting Information Systems and Control Issues - Essay Example A Control Manager warrants efficient and effective exploitation of resources in an organisation so that the planned goals are achieved. It seeks to measure the divergence of actual productivity from the benchmark performance and analyses the causes of the divergence if any and renders measures to take corrective actions. Controlling has several features: As dynamic in nature, it enhances the coordination of activities taking place in an organisation and helps in the process of planning. Internal control In the context of accounting and finance, internal control relates to a process by which the structure, the flow of task and authority, the people and the management information systems are designed in a manner so as to help an organization achieve definite goals and objectives. By this operation an organization directs monitors and measures its resources. Control plays a significant part in checking and identifying fraud and defending both physical resources like land and machinery a nd intangible resources like goodwill or intellectual property (Trenerry, p.126). The objectives of internal control in an organisation would mean delivery of reliable financial reporting, opportune feedback when operational goals are achieved and conformity with rules and regulations. At the level of a specific functional department, internal control, also referred to as operational control, refers to the means by which definite objectives are achieved. For example, all the transactions that are taking place between the company and the suppliers are should be accounted for. Internal Control system is implemented over Financial Reporting to ensure accounting statements are accurate so that the financial statements are reliable (Harrer, p.2). The Politics of a New Industrial Order Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

The Politics of a New Industrial Order - Essay Example elieved that every individual is equal and no one should be treated unequally in the society so they struggled to remove corruption and influence of rich people on the society. They also aimed to increase the government-public relationship so that there will be no communication gaps between and the problems of people could be solved. (Ideas and movements, 19th Century) To carry on with their motives and beliefs the progressives used different tactics. Many intellectuals wrote about the horrors of poverty, urban slums, dangerous factory conditions, and child labor to inform the people and get their support which was needed for the movement to succeed. The next major thing in the early reform period was abolitionism that is the force to remove slavery from the society. It also prohibited the intake of intoxicants as it pollutes the mind. After that was the struggle for the rights of women and the decreasing value of rural areas. After that it was the turn of social Darwinism to be removed from the society. This step was taken to loosen the grip of wealthy people on the society. The movement benefitted the people by loosening the power of their bosses on them. It helped them in getting rid of the gentry. The steps to stop labor exploitation gave safer work environment to the workers and this dropped the death rate. Different acts that were passed helped the investors (Sherman Antitrust Act 1890). Apart from benefits, the movement had some drawbacks. It triggered long work hours as the economy was expanding and the labor worked for very long hours. The next flaw was that by increasing the public-government relationship, the movement increased the chances of corruption and bribery. The movement encouraged schooling but at that time the industry had a great influence due to which the intellectual became reluctant to teach and thus the students became reluctant to study.

INFORNO operating system Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

INFORNO operating system - Research Proposal Example Here, the term varied computing systems involves not just desktop computers but a range of devices such as palm tops, laptops, set-top boxes and other communication equipment. The challenge in writing applications for a distributed and hybrid environment is threefold: firstly, the development environments vary greatly, secondly, systems and the way these systems present resources vary greatly and finally a varied network has varying security and authorization policies that may not necessarily synchronize across the network (vitanuaova.com, nd). Inferno was developed as a successor of Plan 9 OS primarily with the help of Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson in the Bell Labs computing Sciences research centre in New Jersey, USA in 1995 (operating-system.org, 2008). The entire team of INFERNO includes Sean Dorward, Rob Pike, David Pressotto, Dennis Ritchie, Howard Trickey and Phil Winterbottom. The primary motivation behind INFERNO is generating the capability to include a range of everyday use hardware devices into a distributed network. INFERNO OS facilitates the creation and support of distributed services in the new and emerging world of network environments, such as those typified by CATV and direct satellite broadcasting systems, as well as the Internet (Dorward et al 2002). Inferno is designed to accommodate the diverse providers of content and services from equally diverse transport and presentation platforms. From the above discussion it is evident that the main strength of INFERNO lies in its portability across several dimensions. Primarily, it is portable across various processor architectures. Currently it works with Intel x86, Intel XScale IBM Power PC, ARM, SunSPARC and MIPS (vitanuova, nd). Secondly INFERNO is portable across platforms. It can run as either a stand-alone operating system or as an application under the regular operating systems such as Window s and Linux (Dorward, Pike, Pressotto, Ritchie, Trickey and Winterbottom, 2002). Inferno's underlying architecture, the STYX protocol is the reason behind Inferno's interoperability. The protocol has been designed such that all communication is essentially handled through the file system which is very similar to UNIX OS (electronicdesign, 2000). Almost all of the INFERNO's capabilities and functionalities are based on Limbo, which is the programming language of Inferno. The primary reason for choosing Limbo to support INFERNO is because of its ability to support distributed computing. Multi-tasking is supported directly by the Limbo language. It supports multi-tasking with the help of independently scheduled threads that can be spawned, and coordinated which enable communication between tasks. It supports modular programming, strong type checking, interprocess communication, automatic garbage collection and simple abstract data types (Ritchie, 2005). Another motivation behind Limbo is its similarity to commonly used languages such as C and PASCAL (Dorward et al, 1997). So, if one needs to port INFERNO from one hardware or a system to another all one has to do is to modify a few hardware dependent functions. This is how it turns out to be an excellent operating system for all types of hardware and distributed computing. The system can be used to build portable client and server applications

Small-business owner Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Small-business owner - Research Paper Example A labor-relations strategy involves identifying the goals in labor relations that are desired by both the labor and the management. They could be picked out individually or jointly. A strategy to meet these goals will then be identified (Slaughter, 2008). This could be a collaboration strategy or compliance strategy, or a combination of both collaboration and compliance (Noe, 2007). Actions necessary to carry out that strategy will then be developed. As a manager, I would motivate my employees by rewarding appropriately for the time they dedicate to the company, offering annual pay increments (Christiansen, 1983) and showing appreciation through complimenting on a job that’s been well done. Assigning a manageable amount of work to each employee would also motivate him/her to work well. Lastly, it’s important to engage in casual conversations with employees and try to learn something about every one (Noe,

Telecommunication systems - Essay Example If telephone lines are used then serial access program are used to enable the communication of the computer with telephone line. Because the firm employees require voice transmission voIP system is necessary, this system helps set up and separate calls into audio codec’s. The speech is encoded to allow transmission over the IP network as an audio stream (Haykin, 2001). They help in data transfer, i.e. data reception and transmission between the terminus equipment. They enable in conversion of data from analogue to digital and vice versa, modems, microwave links, wireless link, repeaters hubs are all used in computer networking to enable data transfer. In the case of the medium sized firm modems and hubs can be used. This refers to the path/ medium used for data transmission. Most common data communication channels are copper wires, fiber optic cables, coaxial cable and microwave links. The most common types of communication channels are the simplex communication and duplex communication. This is the control software present in all computers and helps in controlling network functions and activities. In the case of the medium sized firm this will include application software to be used is run on the application server such as java application server, Microsoft platforms, Zend platforms etc. for the firm to implement WAN, application web server which accept HTTP program request from the user has to be used. web severs perform authentication, handling of file static and dynamic content, HTTP support through encrypted connections, data compression for transmission, virtual hosting bandwidth throttling among other functions. Exchange server such as the Microsoft exchange server aids in electronic mail exchange, support for web and mobile programs. The help in interconnecting computers within a small area. E.g. in this case the company with 20 – 50 employees, if all the employees have computers, these computers can be interlinked
